The Beauty of Imperfection, Reflected In Refinished Old Vanity

imageIn my opinion, imperfection far outshines perfection.  Case in point, is the  vintage vanity I just finished for my daughter-in-law Lindsay. I do not have the before pic but it was solid and yellow with some slight wear on top and bottom. The drawers were all lined in contact paper.  Most importantly the mirrors were and are wonderfully way aged.

Lindsay and I discussed colors and I was going to go for a foo-foo look.  But after applying black glaze and wax over the milky white paint, I looked in the mirror and did not like what I saw.  I realized those mirrors needed to “reflect” the beauty of this cool old vanity’s imperfection.

So I broke back out the sander and applied stain from top to bottom.  Needless to say applying stain over wax makes for a messy bit of work.  None the less it was not the first sticky situation I have come across and in the end it all worked out.

I still wanted a pop of color and some girly stuff, so I painted inside and sides of drawers. Last but not least are those beautiful, flashy, and maybe even a little gaudy drawer pulls.  Hobby Lobby marks down their drawer pulls every couple weeks and they have a huge selection. Not alot of money, but to me money well spent. Those shiney knobs contrasted so “perfectly” the beautiful imperfection this vanity reflects so well.
