It’s winter 2012 and the weather is more than a little chilly.  Due to a major snow front I have the day off.   This has allowed me a few minutes to read through and repost some of my favorite past funnies.  Hope some of you get a chuckle. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the beauty of imperfection. It may be because I’m a reality show junky, that I have been bombarded with the idea as to what some call “perfection”.  Or, maybe it’s just that I’m looking at more imperfect people …

Christmas is a time when each and every joyful moment today becomes a treasured memory for tomorrow.

Christmas is a time to remember those we have lost (temporarily) and miss so very much.  I wrote this poem to honor those lost and to comfort those who have lost.

Remember me

I’m right there in your smile. I’m tucked into that place made special in your heart, just for me. At times when the memories may turn bittersweet, I’m there in even the salty sting of tears. I will never leave. The bond of love is never broken.  It is now your protector and will see you through the pain.

Share me through memory. It is the duty of those left behind to ensure our memories are not forgotten. With every story told, you help continue my legacy of love.

I adored you in life and will be waiting for you after life. This is just a brief interruption in our journey. Now you have some time to build upon our bond and create new memories that I can’t wait to hear about when next we meet.

Winter is not my favorite time of year. But Christmas is all about my sweet Jesus and that brings out the best in even this summer time gal. So this Christmas I am making it my mission to share JOY (my eldest daughters name) with all I encounter (whether they like it or not.) There has been so much to be thankful for in SisyLaLa land this year. Miracles past, present and future continue to abound. Love is flourishing here, there and everywhere. Sometimes though it takes a little extra patience, or just a different viewpoint to see what has been there all along but not seen at first glance. Therefore, I encourage us to search for the JOY in past, present or future and share it with all we got. I’ll start with Christmas present that evokes a Christmas past and hopefully Christmas future memory.

This evening our eldest grandaughter Sadi, came to spend the night with PaPa and Grandma in SisyLaLa land. We worked on Christmas cards (although now they were done via internet) and then I tortured my dear grandaughter by making her guess what she may be getting for Christmas. I have been told by my adult children they are traumitzed by my hint dropping at Christmas time. I try to explain to them I can’t help it. I tell them I am a HINT-AHOLIC that gets a rush I just gotta have at this time of year. I believe totally in shaking, poking and hinting like crazy as to what could be in those glorious gifts. In fact I consider myself a professional gift sniff-er-outer (technical term) and I just gotta share my gift!!!! Sadi fell asleep in front of the Christmas tree after hot chocolate and a prayer of thanks with her truly grateful grandma.

I can remember many a winter evening in my youth getting lost in the colors put forth by the rotation of the colored wheel placed stratigically in front of our aluminum Christmas tree. I still miss that colored wheel and I even miss that aluminum tree. Growing up in southern California the only two trees I knew of were either palm or aluminum!

My sister has for sooooooo many years brought home that bacon and fried it to perfection.

She has nurtured her children and raised them to be the most wonderful adults.

She has loved and supported her wonderful spouse through all the normal growing pains a married couple goes through.

I am very proud of my sister today.  She is now amongst my heroes, because for so many years she has done what needed to be done and she did it with fun, elegance, love and grace.

My little Sister loves Christ and knows all to well “She is woman hear her roar” but “Christ is Father and reigns supreme in his love for us”

KEEP the FAITH

Throughout my life I have searched for purpose.  I have asked for some time in my prayers “what is it Father, you want me to do?  What is my purpose?”

The answer has seemed to allude me for many years and there has been times when I have thought I may never know what it is he wants of me.  Keeping the faith through good times and bad has not always been the easiest thing and I have struggled.  But praise God he has blessed me with a faithful little sisylala who has been there to share her faith when I struggle with mine.  It was because of my sisy’s prayers I believe, I came to accept my sweet Jesus.   As I write I think of her and I will eternally be grateful for those prayers.

Keep the Faith

A few years ago my husband and I took our grandson Mikey to a Seattle Mariner’s game. Oh, but
he was excited and I was determined to milk every moment of my super grandma
status for all it’s worth!

I had pried my purse strings open (painful as that is for me to do) and actually purchased
tickets to something.

After our arrival to the stadium and trudging up step after step to the nosebleed section I
realized, maybe I should have pried a little harder on those purse strings.
Sometimes you do get what you pay for and this was the case here. The nosebleed
section is called that for good reason.  Honestly, I thought I may have heard the “Sound of Music” playing off in the distantce.  I felt we were on a Swiss Alps, Bavarain kind of hike and I started to frantically search for
oxygen.  In my opinion, you could make a small fortune renting oxygen tanks to cheap grandmas.  Thank goodness we eventually collapsed, (I mean arrived to our
seats.)

As soon as the bats started crackin’, things quickly got to a fever pitch and I couldn’t help but get caught up in all the excitement. I must have been delirious from all
the action and lack of oxygen because I grabbed the grandkid and announced to my husband I was off to get some eats, a giant finger for Mikey and a 6.00 beer!
Good Lord, would the madness never end! Off we went, one lucky grandkid and one blessed grandma.

After dropping more than a buck or two at the concession stand, we collected our booty and began the long hike back. While making the climb I happened to notice people were staring at me. I thought I was looking nice but I must have been looking real good that day. Wow, maybe they thought I was Mikey’s Mom. Climbing, carrying food, sucking in my gut and double chin at the same time was quite a feat.  But, with each step my confidence grew almost as big as my head.

Finally we were to our row and had only to squeeze by several people, who looked thrilled to see us coming. As we continually excused ourselves while slipping past fellow spectators, the stares continued and I’m sure I was flashing a smile here and there to all my admirers!

Then when almost to the safety of my cheap seat, it happened.  There was some very nice (possibly also oxygen deprived) woman, who just had to let me know “excuse me ma’am, but your fly is open.”

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the beauty of
imperfection.

It may be because I’m a reality show junky, that I have been bombarded with the idea as
to what some call “perfection”.  Or, maybe it’s just that I’m looking at more imperfect people trying very hard to
keep up the appearance of perfection in non-reality.

I don’t get it!  Stop the madness! For my part in stopping the madness I have put together a few
thoughts to ponder.

There should be a law prohibiting anyone past the age of forty from EVER wearing hair extensions.
If you want to purchase a hair extension past the age of forty, be
prepared to provide your drivers license, Costco picture, blood test, birth
certificate and library card.  This would be a very harsh but necessary means to hopefully slap you back into
reality, as only the picture on that darn drivers license can.

In regards to the lip thing, what can I say except that injecting your lips full of stuff is NUTS!
If you can no longer utter the phrase “The purple platypus’s play
purposefully at a precious petunia filled park”, without feeling one lip touch the other, you need again to stop the madness!

What I’m trying to say is please let’s celebrate who we are, warts (icky) and all.

I speak now as one thin lipped, way over forty, graying beauty.  I love my imperfections and wear them proudly!  I don’t want to be what you want me to be.  I
just want you to appreciate how perfect I wear my imperfection.

I kind of feel that way about everything in life.  I think too much time is taken away from appreciating the beauty and candor of imperfection because
we all get too hung up thinking it all has to be perfect.

I poopoo that thought and encourage each and every one of us to realize the imperfect part of
life is the journey.  Don’t forget to enjoy the trip before you reach what may have never been meant to be your destination at all.

Just a Spoonful of Sugar

Just like summer, here in the northwest I’m just getting warmed up!  I’ve been a busy little La-La turning up the heat and creating many new pieces of jewelry.  The four pieces I have pictured are made with either silver or copper.  The beads are glass and a beautiful peace of sea glass on the necklace.  Because I’ve been a busy bee, I haven’t had much time to write.  So, please indulge me with a repeat of one of my favorites.  I hope you like not only the jewelry but also the following essay written sometime ago.

IF I WERE IN CHARGE;

Three out of the four seasons would be summer.  Spring would be allowed only because it works its way into summer.

The workweek would consist of Monday, Friday, Wed, Friday to be followed up with Friday of course!

No one would be allowed in Costco wearing a blue tooth.

You could still buy a Look candy bar for a nickel.

Prayer would not only be allowed in school, it would be a course of study.

Every city would have at least one drive-in movie with a concession stand fully stocked with bon-bons and popcorn drenched in so much butter “you could shake a stick at it”.  (By the way, if I was in charge you’d have to laugh now, cause that’s some funny stuff.)

I could always find my car in a crowded parking lot.

There would be more ice cream trucks to chase down.

I’ll end here.  But this is just a taste of what you could expect if I were in charge.  Thank goodness I’m not!
